Photo Story Video

Digital storytelling is a unique way for students to interface with technology to deepen their understanding of content. A digital photo story is a short video that consists of pictures, text or voice recordings that are set to music. Students enjoy both the art of photography and videography; this activity combines both skills, so students can engage in content with their creativity skills. Digital storytelling can be used in a myriad of ways in the classroom for example: students can retell a story to demonstrate comprehension, create a presentation, or construct creative writing/story telling pieces. Teachers can use digital storytelling to introduce a new unit, review important facts, or aid in teaching classroom procedures. There are several ways you can make a photo story. For my photo story I used the website Animoto. Listed to the right are several websites and apps that can produce digital stories. Click on the icon and it will direct you to their website for further information.

The following video is a digital story I created to use during Back to School Night. Back to School Night is an event before school starts where students and parents come to school, meet their teachers, and see their classrooms for the first time. The photo story will introduce the students to me and acquaint them with the classroom. Please take a moment to watch the video, as you watch you will notice I used picture and text to create this digital story. I hope that this video will spark a few ideas on how you can use digital storytelling in your classroom.
