Screencast

Screencasting is a tool that most of us have used when we watch a 'how-to' video on the internet. Making a screencast allows you demonstrate a specific task on a computer. It takes a video of your computer screen and allows you to voice over to give directions. Screencasting can be useful in the classroom for both teachers and students. Teachers can use screencasting to explain expectations of an assignment, guide students through complicated computer skills, or to help direct parents to certain websites. A student can use screencasting to create a video report or show proficiency of a computer skill. There are many opportunities to use screencasting within the classroom, those were just a few ideas. To make my screencast I used the website Screencast-O-Matic, there are also many other options to create a screencast. Click on the icons to the right and you will be directed to their websites for further information.

I created the following screencast to demonstrate how to find the following items on a mac computer: type of operating system, processing speed, amount of RAM, and total hard drive space. The video will take you step-by-step through the process of locating each one of these pieces of information. Take some time to view the screencast and brainstorm ways you can use screencasting in your classroom.
